What a day

It has been an exhausting day. We were at the hospital from about 11:00am until 9:30pm. We felt like we were doing rounds (like the doctors) as we went back and forth visiting the babies and visiting my mom. My dad came into town early this afternoon and I think my mom is glad to have him here. She is doing fine. They drained a lot of fluid out of her left lung and will probably drain some more out tomorrow. She has been breathing a lot better. It will be awhile before we know what is wrong since they are growing cultures from the fluid. Hopefully we'll have some results my tomorrow afternoon. She has also had several CT scans but nothing to draw any conclusions from. The babies have been doing really well. Noah had his feeding tube removed and is on "ad lib" feeding. Basically he decides how much he wants to eat at each feeding. We started nursing him today and had several successful nursing sessions. He still gets really tired but has been eating much better than last week. They also have reduced his temperature settings and once he is off of heat for 24-48 hours he'll be allowed to come home. Eli has also been doing well. He has been taken completely off his paralytic medicine and can now wiggle around (although he is still heavily sedated). He has become dependent on the narcotics they have been giving him for the pain which is expected of any person that is given as many narcotics as they give him. He will have to weaned off very slowly as to limit withdrawal symptoms. The doctors are starting to slowly wean him off of his other medications which is a little scary because last time they tried to wean him he crashed. But he has been very stable for several days and the doctors are taking it much slower this time.
