The other side of Eli

Believe it or not, this adorable and usually happy little toddler has an evil twin, and I'm not talking about his actual twin. I'm talking about the side of him that throws uncontrollable tantrums. He seriously loses control. Have you ever heard someone say they were "hopping mad?" Eli does that. If you take something away from him he cries and jumps up and down in protest. But the real insanity doesn't occur until he's tired. And today was a tired day.

We weren't smart. We stayed up late last night working on some home improvement projects at Grandma and Grandpa's house so the boys didn't get to bed until after 10. As usual they woke up at 8 so they got 2 less hours of sleep than usual. We could already tell it was going to be a long day before we left for 11 o'clock church. Eli had thrown a couple of fits in the morning - one over a bath and one because Dad was in the shower and only Dad would do. Then he cried most of the way to church because he wanted more fruit snacks. Then we got to church and he fell off the curb as he was getting out of the car and hit the back of his head on the little platform that you step onto to get into the minivan. He screamed A LOT after that. From the time it took to walk from the van to the church he had a giant goose-egg on the back of his head. He finally got over that and the rest of church went rather smoothly.

After church the boys took a short nap in Grandma and Grandpa's bed. It was much too short and much too late for a nap. After only an hour of sleep, compared to the normal 2-3 hour nap (and remember he was already 2 hours short on sleep), he was awake and the biggest tantrum of the day began. He cried, and screamed, and cried, and screamed for about an hour. Nothing we did helped. We gave him paper and pen but for some reason something was wrong with the paper and the pen. We watched Toy Story. We took off his clothes. We gave him fruit snacks. We gave him Tylenol. Finally the fit ended when we got him dressed and took him outside to swing. We were relieved! Hopefully that was the end of it. Not so! He was happy and playing up until it was time to go home and we took a pen away from him. He was hopping mad. And he cried and screamed some more until we got him home and finally asleep. Phew! There is nothing quite as sweet as a sleeping child, especially after a day like today!

poor little guy... so sad about his goose egg. (even though I don't really feel too bad when my own kids have self inflicted injuries.) Quincey is especially hard when he is tired too. I really hope they grow out of it!

boys will be boys .... but wow I could tell you some stories ... about little girls too! other then the less sleep thing, could he be teething some major teeth in back, or is he getting enough proteins and food in his little belly. That's when "the dads" would say just swat his butt ..... just saying

That was quite the Sunday! I don't like 11:00 church with a toddler. It's so hard when they don't get their naps.

So glad to know I'm not alone- sometimes Adam throws such fits that I don't even know what to do, so I just stand back and watch and wait until he's done. Hopefully you're catching up on sleep!
