We have had a busy 2 days. We decided on Sunday that we needed to take a little mini vacation so we packed up all our camping gear and headed down to
Mammoth Caves on Tuesday morning. First thing we did when we got there was go on the
New Entrance Tour which is a 2 hour tour of a man-made entrance into the cave. The entrance, which is at the bottom of a sink hole, was blasted open with 20 sticks of dynamite. Once you go in you descend down about 250 stairs to 380 feet below the surface. This opens up into a large "gathering place" names Grand Central Station. You then begin to climb back up and continue to another open "room" called Fairy Ceiling. In this room the guides turned all the lights off and it was VERY dark. They asked for complete silence but Noah and Eli didn't exactly cooperate. We then continued onto the Frozen Niagara - the stalagmites and stalactites actually look like a frozen waterfall. The tour was amazing and I would recommend it! The hardest part was that we had to wear the boys in front carriers for 2 hours, but it was definitely worth it.

After setting up our camp, we drove down to Bowling Green and went on the
Lost River boat tour. This was pretty cool. It is an underground river and you get to take a boat tour through a section of it. We actually had a hard time hearing and paying attention because the boys didn't like their life jackets but it was still fun. At one point you have to practically fold your body in half so that you don't hit your head on the top of the cave. What is really great about this cave is in 1934 they opened a night club at the mouth of the cave because it is naturally "air conditioned." The night club doesn't operate anymore but they still
rent out the area for weddings and parties.

Camping with the boys was
interesting. We had to spend most of the time with them in the tent since it was rainy. They slept pretty good - only woke up once at 12:30. It took Noah about an hour to fall back asleep but once he did they slept until 5:30 (which is about normal considering we were on central time). It started raining during the middle of the night around 1 and was absolutely pouring when we woke up. So we just packed everything up early in the morning, had breakfast at The Cracker Barrel, and headed out to the Abraham Lincoln birthplace and boyhood home.

Now we are back home and the babies are all cleaned up. Our one night camping trip was a good trial run for many more camping trips to come.
